SOLV’s fourth annual Radio-thon took place this past Friday, March 18th on KPOJ (AM 620) and was a great success. According to SOLV’s individual giving coordinator Keith Bernhardt, the SOLV-KPOJ Radio-thon started in 2008 as a way for the organization to reach a broader audience. Clear Channel chose KPOJ AM 620 as the partner for SOLV because our environmental and community building messages work well with the views of their progressive listeners. The on-air portion raised $12,000 for SOLV programs, and the online auction is live on all Clear Channel radio stations through March 26th. The radio-thon is especially important because it generates large numbers of new members making their first donations to SOLV.
KPOJ talked to many SOLV supporters and friends, like Metro president Tom Hughes, Oregon DEQ’s Nina DeConcini and former SOLV executive director Jack McGowan, as well as West Linn Green Team teacher Jim Hartmann. Listen to the audio clip above to hear what Jim has to say about the importance of environmental stewardship in schools and how his students have become empowered to make a difference.
