Gladstone High battles Ivy with Swords!

Sword Ferns that is!  Students from Kevin Zerzan’s Environmental Science class at Gladstone High School has been working hard this trimester pulling English Ivy from a sensitive riparian zone along Rinearson Creek.  This morning, students continued that battle by planting some native trees and shrubs that compete well with our nemesis ivy; Sword Fern in particular!

Students also learned about Grand Fir, Snowberry, Red Alder, Western Red Cedar and Salmonberry – all native plants we will continue to plant this school year to enhance habitat, provide root structure for stream banks and shade Rinearson Creek.

Thank you GHS!
