3 years of Stewardship — and Friendship

Happy Summer to our Green Team students! Rachel Carson was our last Green Team class to make ot out to their site before their summer break started.

For these students, their SOLVE site is not just the creek site they have classes at.  To many it is “My Creek” or “Our Creek”.  Willow Creek is a place of fond memories of hard work that pays off, of fun in the mud, of quiet reflection and where lasting friendships have been made.  These eight graders have spent the last three years getting to know intimately — and helping restore — Willow Creek.  Student that came before them began working at Willow nearly 10 years ago; these kids are part of that legacy and thank to them the health of the creek has improved tremendously.

During their last official visit, they spent some time wandering the site and checking out their favorite places.  They each gathered blades of grass, leaves and flowers and each tossed their piece of Willow Creek into the creek — as a symbol of their hopes for the creek and future Rachel Carson students, with this poem in mind:

We join with the earth and with each other.
To bring new life to the land
To restore the waters
To refresh the air

We join with the earth and with each other.

To renew the forests
To care for the plants
To protect the creatures

We join with the earth and with each other.

To celebrate the seas
To rejoice the sunlight
To sing the song of the stars

We join with the earth and with each other.

To recall our destiny
To renew our spirits
To reinvigorate our bodies

We join with the earth and with each other.

To create the human community
To promote justice and peace
To remember our children

We join together as many and diverse expressions of one loving mystery: for the healing of the earth and the renewal of all life.

Rachel Carson students and teachers (especially you Rebecca Hall!), thank you from SOLVE for your hard work, the laughs and the joys you brought to Willow Creek.  You are all amazing and we wish you the best in your next chapter!  You are always welcome to continue helping out Willow Creek!

  1. I’d like to thank you for the efforts you’ve put in penning this
site. I’m hoping to see the same high-grade content by you in the future as well. In truth, your creative writing abilities has encouraged me to get my own, personal blog now 😉

  2. You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something which I think
I would never understand. It seems too complex and very broad for me.
I’m looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the
    hang of it!
